The Plans

Plans for the regenerated Alexandra Theatre have been drawn up for the Community Benefit Society by Newton Abbot firm PMR Architecture and are based on the previously released drawings of Jeremy Newcombe, the Newton Abbot based Architect behind the regeneration of Newton’s Place. The plans do show the releationship to a regenerated Market Hall. The plans, origianlly formed in 2022 have been developed throughout 2023 in consultation with Teignbridge planners and with the generous support of Architectural Heritage Fund.

The society plans for the Alexandra Theatre have evolved based on feedback from conservation officers. The new scheme, currently being prepared for planning committee, retains the existing auditorium with the balcony. The society also has a working business plan with the support of the Independent Cinema Office, benchmarked against the industry operating models of similar scale venues. In October 2023 a breakthrough was made when the Teignbridge Council executive concluded to switch the focus of their Future High Street Fund application to the CBS’s vision for the Alexandra Theatre. The society directors are now colaborating constuctively with the council to create a sustainable and vibrant theatre, cinema and cultural hub for the future generations of Teignbridge.
